Vishal K S is a graduate student at the University of California, San Diego, with over three years of experience in backend development, primarily focusing on web apps. He has also worked on iOS and Shopify apps, taking projects from inception to execution and delivery. Vishal recognizes the impact of comprehensive metrics and has designed and developed telemetry for his previous projects. Aside from backend development, Vishal has experience in front-end development and machine learning. He enjoys participating in UX sessions, walkthroughs, and marketing meetings to voice his thoughts and receive feedback. Vishal is also passionate about volunteering and has tutored children in high school Science and Math in shelter homes and orphanages across India. He enjoys hiking and exploring, particularly high-altitude treks and being off the grid. Currently, Vishal is a Software Engineer Intern at tigergraph, where he has developed features to retrieve statistics and histograms for edge and datetime attributes for the transition from heuristic to cost-based optimizer. He has also designed and developed DDL statements capability for creating/showing/dropping histograms through the GSQL shell and post process hooks to clear statistics on drop of vertex/edges/graphs. Vishal has used the LDBC benchmark and LDBC BI queries to verify and analyze the improvements of the cost optimizer. Previously, Vishal worked as a Core Backend Engineer at a remote pre-seed startup based out of San Francisco called bestever. He was responsible for designing, developing, and deploying the backend for the iOS, web, and Shopify app as the only backend dev in a total team of 5. He also designed and developed an optimized no repeat video reviews feed tailored for each user. Vishal has also worked as a Software Engineer II at Akamai, where he designed, implemented and deployed over 200 metrics for the Atlassian tools being utilized at Akamai. He also designed and developed the front-end and back-end for an internal git auditing tool for Akamai and user/manager perspective source code management metrics for the Bitbucket hosted at Akamai. Vishal assisted in designing the distributed proactive monitoring as a service application for the teams in Akamai. Vishal holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego, which he will complete in 2023.
